The baby can now move his or her arms around and it can also move around in the uterus. The baby's iris begins to develop and there are signs of fingernails. Your baby will weigh between 7 and 8 grams.
Week 11 to week 20 are a period of expeditious growth for the little one. He / She will grow in size from approximately 1.7 - 2.4 inches (44-60mm) to 6 inches (16cm). The urinary system is now fully functional and all the other major organs are now formed.
As you are nearing the end of the first trimester the morning sickness may begin to start lifting and you may feel like you have a bit more energy.
The Mother usually gains around 1-2 pounds during the first trimester but some woman lose weight which can also be normal. It is a myth that you are eating for two. During pregnancy you will only need to consume an extra 300-500 calories a day.
It has been said that some women have noticed an increase in hair and nail growth during pregnancy, whilst others have been reported to have lost small amounts of hair.
I felt a lot better this week I had a couple of days where I have had more energy and get up and go in me. The sickness was still there but mainly in the evening.
I suffered from an extremely dry mouth which did not help with the sickness. At night I tended to drink a lot of water which had a knock on effect as I had to get up in the middle of the night to go to the the toilet.
I definitely noticed my tummy protruding more and seemed to get bigger in the evening. I guess that is due to all the water I had been drinking during the day.
Next week will be the 12 week midwife appointment and nuchal scan.
